JANUARY '08 WINNERS
PETER MELERO - Archbishop E MacCarthy H.S., Florida
Peter was nominated by his band director Marcos Rodriguez. Peter began his music experience with Mr. Rodgriguez and within a few months went from No Experience whatsoever to reading and playing Grade level 4 music. By the end of the year, he owned 2 saxes, and was playing college level music and doing jazz improv. He continued on to become a section leader and began working with the feeder programs to increase the bands numbers. He has stayed after school late running sectionals, rehearsals, and just practicing on his own in a school with no true fine arts facility all to help our program grow. He has now decided to continue music as a career either in performance or in education. This young man's spirit and drive is a motivation to us all !!!
SARAH STUDT - Sparta, Michigan - High School Student
Sarah is a proud band member in Sparta, Michigan. She and two friends drove for an hour through a blizzard to attend a benefit screening of the film in Grandville, Michigan in January.
Talk about true band spirit !!!

NOVEMBER '07 WINNERS
AARON PRITT - Oak Hill H.S. - West Virginia
Aaron is the Drum Major at Oak Hill H.S. in West
Virginia and he is trying to raise some money for
items such as new drums for his school. Aaron, his
family, and community are big supporters of their
band, and Aaron has made the arrangements to have the
film shown at his school in March as a Benefit Screening.
DEVIN FORBES - Chapel Hill H.S., North Carolina
Devin is the Horn Captain and Senior Flute Marcher for
the Chapel Hill High School Marching Tiger Band in
Chapel Hill, N.C. Devin works hard to motivate the
younger musicians in his band. He has also been
instrumental (no pun intended) in generating interest
in his community for the film so some of the younger
members of his band, and their friends and families,
can enjoy the motivational benefits of the marching arts.
OCTOBER '07 WINNERS
RACHEL WOOD - Lathrop High School - Missouri 12th grade -
Rachel is the proud Drum Major of a high school
marching band from a small town in Missouri. She
drove two hours to see the film at the Kansas Film
Festival. She has renewed pride in being part of the
band culture and now may decide to pursue the marching
band activity in college as well. Rachel exemplifies the true spirit of marching band.
JULIE DEXHEIMER - Duke University - Durham, NC
Julie approached Director Jeff Au of the Duke
University Marching and Pep Bands, and asked about
doing a service project for her community. After
discussing it, they decided to do a special screening
of the film at Duke University, with ticket sales to
benefit the music program at Southern H.S. in Durham.
This was the first of many such Benefit Screenings to
be held around the country, which have brought in
thousands of dollars for school programs.
